ErgoDeflection Custom Deflection Loupes – SurgiTel
Precision matters in dentistry. Whether you are carrying out a root canal, placing a composite restoration or assessing soft tissue, the ability to see your working field in sharp, magnified detail changes everything.
SurgiTel dental loupes are trusted by dental professionals across the UK. We deliver ergonomic designs that protect your body as well as enhance your vision.
Dentistry is a physically demanding profession. Hours spent hunching over patients, straining to see fine detail in a small working field, take a significant toll on the body over a career.
Studies consistently show that musculoskeletal disorders are one of the leading causes of early retirement among dental professionals, with neck and back pain being the most common complaints.
Dental loupes address both sides of this problem. They bring your working field into sharp, magnified focus and, when designed correctly, encourage an upright working posture that dramatically reduces the strain on your neck, back, and shoulders.
Not all loupes do this equally well. Ergonomic design is not a standard feature across the industry. It is the foundation of everything SurgiTel builds.
SurgiTel has been developing ergonomic loupes since 1992, with a range of patented technologies that set them apart from the competition.
Every SurgiTel loupe is built with steep declination angles, allowing you to look downward into the oral cavity while keeping your head upright. This single feature makes a profound difference to posture and long-term comfort.
Heavy loupes cause fatigue and encourage poor posture. SurgiTel loupes are engineered to be as light as possible without compromising optical performance, so you can wear them comfortably through a full clinical day.
From 2.5x general-purpose magnification through to 10x prism telescopes for the most delicate procedures, SurgiTel loupes deliver outstanding clarity and a wide field of view at every magnification level.
Whether you are a general dentist, an endodontist, a dental hygienist, or a dental student taking your first steps into magnification, there is a SurgiTel loupe built for your needs and your working style.
An excellent entry point into magnification. Lightweight, comfortable, and available from 2.5x magnification, Galilean loupes are ideal for general dentistry and everyday clinical use.
Through the lens loupes are custom-made to your exact facial measurements and working distance, delivering a wider field of view and a more precise fit than any off-the-shelf alternative. The most popular choice among experienced clinicians.
SurgiTel’s most advanced ergonomic design. Patented declination angles and a stable frame construction deliver outstanding posture support even during the longest and most demanding procedures.
Combining the optical performance of TTL loupes with the ergonomic advantages of deflection style design, the Hybrid Ergo is an outstanding all-round choice for clinicians who want the best of both worlds.
Every loupe works better with the right illumination. SurgiTel’s Odyssey LED headlights are cordless, lightweight, and clip directly onto your loupes — delivering bright, shadow-free light exactly where you need it. Available in Mini and Micro options for everyday use, with high-intensity corded systems available for maximum brightness.

For general dentistry, 2.5x to 3.5x magnification is the most common starting point. Higher magnifications such as 4.5x to 6x are popular among endodontists and those carrying out particularly fine or detailed work. Our specialist team will help you identify the right magnification for your clinical needs during your free evaluation.
TTL (through the lens) loupes are custom-made to your exact facial measurements and working distance, built directly into the lens of the frame. Flip-up loupes attach to the front of the frame and can be flipped up when not in use. TTL loupes generally offer a wider field of view and a more precise fit, while flip-up loupes offer greater flexibility if your working distance varies. Our team can help you decide which is right for you.
Absolutely. Dental hygienists work in demanding conditions that require both precision and sustained focus over long appointments. SurgiTel loupes are used widely by hygienists across the UK and are available in configurations specifically suited to hygiene work.
Yes. SurgiTel TTL loupes can be manufactured with your prescription incorporated directly into the lens, removing the need to wear glasses underneath your loupes. Please bring your current prescription to your evaluation appointment.
Your working distance is the distance between your eyes and your patient when you are in your natural working position. Getting this right is critical to comfort and posture. During your free evaluation, our specialist team will measure your working distance precisely to ensure your loupes are built to fit the way you actually work.
Yes. SurgiTel products are covered by a manufacturer warranty. Full warranty information is available to download from our resources page, or speak to our team for details.
Most clinicians adapt to wearing loupes within one to two weeks of regular use. Starting with a lower magnification can help if you are new to loupes. Our team will provide full guidance on how to get the most out of your new loupes from day one.

Nick Lemon – Co-Founder/Director, The Lampadina Group
Nick has over 25 years experience in the dental and medical industry, in particular with optics, and is widely regarded as the most knowledgeable personality in the UK when it comes to microscopes and loupes, having sold more than 1,000 microscopes and many more loupes throughout his career.
Since the formation of The Lampadina Group, Nick has helped countless dentists, vets and medical professionals improve their day to day work and prolong their working careers.
Nick has been instrumental in driving forward Lampadina’s growth across all sectors with his forward-thinking, pro-active and intelligent planning.
Outside of work, he enjoys 18 holes as long as it’s sunny and he has a buggy, spending time with his family and avoiding temporary traffic lights – even if it doubles his journey time.
Nikki Pearson – Operations Manager, The Lampadina Group
Nikki is the longest serving and most loyal member of the Lampadina team. Nothing happens at Lampadina HQ without Nikki knowing about it!
Nikki runs the office with military precision, from ensuring the sales team and engineers know where they need to be and when to keeping all of our accounts up to date, taking payments, acting as a dedicated reminder service for Alex and Nick and giving whoever needs it a good talking to if they step out of line. If she doesn’t know an answer, she knows how to find it immediately and should always be your first port of call for any questions!
Outside of work, Nikki enjoys playing the drums, drinking wine (strictly within government guidelines), has tried her hand at paddleboarding, loves a festival, keeping her husband Ben as organised as she does the office and still shows up bright-eyed and bushy tailed at 9am every morning to make us all a coffee – when she’s not on holiday.
Robin Lemon – Sales Manager, South
Robin has quickly become known as “Rob The Microscope Guy” – look him up on Instagram. He is also a fully trained chef but we are yet to sample any of his specialities as he claims his creations don’t travel well.
Robin is based in London and you’ll mostly spot him on microscope courses, at dental practices demonstrating our microscopes and loupes or on the tube with his backpack full of optical brilliance. Robin covers everywhere south of Birmingham so if you have any questions, be sure to give him a call.
Robin has a young daughter with his wife so outside of work he spends most of his time with them or trying to catch up on his sleep!
James Lemon – Sales Manager, North
Straight out of school, James knew he wanted to work in medical sales and has been with The Lampadina Group and CJ-Optik UK for a few years now. James covers from Birmingham right up to The Outer Hebrides and can mostly be found up and down the UK’s motorways doing what he enjoys the most, talking about optics, supporting dental courses and demonstrating our range.
Outside of work, James hasn’t succumbed to having children (yet) so he will be found in a bar or restaurant without a care in the world, or on the golf course.
Gary Young – Lead Engineer
If Gary can’t, then it probably can’t be done.
Gary is a fully qualified electrician, a dab hand at building and can strip down a microscope and put it back together quicker than a Navy Seal can a SIG Sauer P226.
Gary is responsible for ensuring that a microscope can be fitted exactly where one of the salesguys have said it can be fitted, troubleshooting any issues and even reinforcing walls. This is all assuming he is continually drip-fed black coffee.
Outside of work, Gary spends a lot of time helping family out with odd jobs, organising his garage, carrying out maintenance on his trusty VW Transporter, looking after his grandkids and generally being one of the nicest and most useful people you’ll ever meet.
